WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, Pioneer Public Affairs announced the addition of Pierson Stoecklein as a partner. Stoecklein has more than 15 years of experience advising companies in the energy and transportation sectors on complex legal, public policy, and regulatory matters. In addition to his role at Pioneer, Stoecklein currently serves as Executive Director of the Microgrid Resources Coalition

“With trillions of dollars in new investments in energy and transportation slated to be deployed in the next few years, this is the most dynamic period in modern times for these sectors, with tremendous opportunities and challenges at all levels of government,” said Stoecklein. “I'm honored to join the most-cutting edge firm in town and excited to leverage my experience working at the federal, state and local levels to help Pioneer’s clients build out the next generation of transportation and clean energy infrastructure.”

Prior to joining Pioneer Public Affairs, Stoecklein was Head of Policy & Regulatory Counsel at Mainspring Energy, which manufactures clean, commercial-scale, distributed linear generator technology.  During his tenure at Mainspring, Pierson navigated the legislative and regulatory landscape at all levels of government, successfully paving the way for a first-in-kind clean energy technology to come to market. Linear generators became recognized under multiple state laws and clean energy incentive programs, and simultaneously eligible for a business energy investment tax credit following enactment of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.

Pierson began his career in public service in the Office of Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR), working on issues related to offshore wind project development and renewable energy production on federal land.  Pierson also held policy and legal roles at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, where he co-led a comprehensive review of policies governing independent transmission development and interconnection access for renewable energy projects.

“We’re thrilled to have Pierson join our growing team. He has years of experience working in the energy and transportation space, and brings Pioneer additional legal and regulatory expertise that will be critical for pushing these important sectors forward in the context of recently passed laws,” said Joe Britton, President of Pioneer Public Affairs. “We are really going to lean on him as we shift our focus to new opportunities in 2023, from implementing the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and Inflation Reduction Act, to legislative work on appropriations and the farm bill.”

In addition to his work at Mainspring Energy and in public service, Pierson was in private legal practice at two prominent international law firms, where he advised a broad range of energy industry clients on transactional, regulatory, and corporate matters. Stoecklein has a law degree from the University of Oregon and was a third-year visiting student at George Washington University Law School. He earned a BA in Environmental Ethics & Public Policy from Colgate University.
